Dallas ties the curb to active loading, not a permit

If you have moved in Houston, do not assume Dallas works the same way. It does not, and the difference is worth knowing before load day.

Dallas prohibits parking a commercial vehicle on a public street, alley or parkway unless it is actively loading or unloading. There is no permit to buy and no clock to beat — but there is also no waiting around. A truck standing at the curb between trips is not covered by that exemption. Houston, in the same state, caps a trailer at two hours regardless. Austin wants a right-of-way permit and asks you to notify the neighbors. One regulator, three rules.

What that means in practice is staging. A Dallas load is planned so the truck is working whenever it is at the curb: the crew is sized so the vehicle is not parked waiting for boxes to come out of the house, and where a Resident Parking Only zone is involved the truck is there for the load and then gone.

The rest of a Dallas move is access in the ordinary sense. A great many addresses are behind an HOA gate or in a managed tower, and both want arranging before the day — the gate code and the guard, or the bay, the lift and a certificate of insurance naming the building. We settle both at survey.

Do I need a parking permit for the truck?

Is that the same as Houston?

Different regulator. Interstate is federal: USDOT 2138595 and MC-744411, checkable on the FMCSA register. A move that starts and ends in Texas requires an active TxDMV certificate, and you can check any company in the TxDMV "Truck Stop" database — an Active status means licensed. Texas also lets a shipper request mediation in writing.
