Oregon requires commercial vehicles over 10,000 lb to carry chains from 1 November to 31 March on its mountain passes: Siskiyou Summit on I-5, Cabbage Hill on I-84 and Mount Hood on US 26. For a move from California that means Siskiyou, and it is the reason a Portland delivery window in January is wider than the same move in July. The mileage does not change. The number of hours a loaded trailer might spend stopped does.
Intel's largest site is not in California
Intel's biggest site anywhere is four campuses in Hillsboro, ten miles west of Portland, the heart of what Oregon calls the Silicon Forest, with Nike's headquarters at Beaverton next door. So a large share of what we move into Oregon lands in Washington County rather than in Portland proper, and that is the easier delivery: newer subdivisions, wider streets, driveways a trailer can use. Portland's close-in east side is the harder half, and it is where a shuttle gets planned.

This move was from Boulder, CO to Detroit, MI in the middle of winter. The team at Cross Country not only saved the day, they went above and beyond to make sure all our timing hit just right. My stuff was picked up on a Tuesday and delivered on Friday of the same week. The movers in Colorado were great – easy going yet efficient and very careful with my items. The dispatch team is as good as it gets. Overall, dependable, quality service at competitive rates. They may be slightly more than others but when it comes to moving, you get what you pay for. These guys offer peace of mind and ease in addition to outstanding service. Would absolutely use again.

Moving in and out of Oregon: the practical part

If your destination is a narrow inner-city street or a property with a long carry from the nearest legal parking, that is a survey question and it changes which vehicle we send.

From April to October, Siskiyou Summit is just a climb, and the winter clause in this page’s delivery windows goes unused. If your dates are flexible, that is the half of the year to spend them on. If they are not, nothing changes except the width of the window we put in writing.
