The numbers, and where to look them up

Every interstate mover has to hold operating authority, and every one of them is listed in a database the FMCSA publishes. Ours is below. So is the link.

USDOT number
2138595 The carrier snapshot shows our authority status, our fleet size and our inspection history. If a mover will not give you this number, that is the answer. Carrier snapshot safer.fmcsa.dot.gov
Motor carrier docket
MC-744411 Interstate household goods authority. The licensing record also shows who is filing our insurance and whether it is active. Licensing record li-public.fmcsa.dot.gov
Cargo and liability cover
Active Filed with the FMCSA by our insurer, not by us. Lapsed cover shows up on the same page as the docket. Insurance filing li-public.fmcsa.dot.gov
Years operating
10+ yrs There is no public register for this one, so take it as our claim rather than as a checkable fact.

Both links go to fmcsa.dot.gov, the federal regulator, and open in a new tab. We do not control what they say about us.

Who you are calling

Relocation is the whole business, not a sideline

A team of around 160 people whose only job is moving households and offices between states.

We have moved several thousand households across the country, and the work has not changed much: a survey fixes the inventory, the inventory fixes the weight, and the weight and the mileage fix the price. What changes is how well a company holds to the number it gave you. That is the part we compete on.

Full service means our packers dismantle and box your belongings, our crew loads them onto our truck, and the same company unloads, unpacks and reassembles at the other end. Thirty days of storage in transit is included if the new place is not ready. There is no point in the chain where your shipment is handed to a company you did not choose.

We also move offices and relocate employees, and we ship cars — door to door or terminal to terminal, in an open or an enclosed carrier. If you are arranging a move on somebody else's behalf, say so on the first call: the paperwork and the billing are different, and it is easier to set up at the start than halfway through.

How we got here

Over a decade of interstate work

Not a company history so much as the four decisions that changed how we run a move.

  1. One tractor unit and a Culver City yard

Long distance only, from the start. Local moving is a different business with different economics, and trying to do both badly is how most movers begin.

  2. Our own operating authority

The point at which we stopped being a company that arranges moves and became one that performs them. It is also the point at which a customer can look us up instead of taking our word.

  3. A warehouse we control

Storage in transit stopped meaning "a facility we rent space in". Thirty days became standard on long distance moves rather than an extra.

  4. Binding estimates after survey, as the default

The industry norm is a non-binding number that moves on the day. We made the survey the point at which the price stops changing, which is the single thing customers tell us they were most afraid of.

  5. One coordinator per move, end to end

No handover between a sales desk and an operations desk. The person who quotes your move is the person who answers when the truck is late.

The equipment

Who turns up at your door

Long distance moves run on 53-foot trailers, and most residential streets do not. Which vehicle can reach your address is decided at survey, not on the morning.

Questions people ask before booking

A long distance move passes through four sets of hands. These are the four, what each one decides, and which of them you are speaking to when you call.
