Miami sells movers no curb, so the building decides
Most cities sell a mover some form of curb. Miami does not.
The city issues no temporary street-blocking permit for a personal moving truck — there is nothing to apply for and no sign to post. A move works from a designated commercial loading bay, from legal double-parking where the street genuinely allows it, or from the building’s own space. That single absence changes the shape of the job: the building is not one factor among several, it is the entire plan, because when the bay is unavailable there is no legal street fallback to retreat to.
So the questions we ask at survey are all building questions. Which bay, how tall is the entrance, does the service lift take the longest item you own, which hours does the association allow, and what does the certificate of insurance have to say. In a Brickell or Sunny Isles tower those answers are set by management months before you booked a mover.
The second Miami variable is the calendar. Hurricane season runs from the first of June to the end of November, and on this coast that is an operational fact rather than a caution: delivery windows into and out of the region widen from August to October, and we will not load a trailer into a named-storm warning. A booked move that has to move gets rescheduled rather than driven.
One useful thing about Florida: it is the easiest state in the country to check a mover in, and it does not need a computer. Any company doing household moves here has to be registered with the state, and that registration number must appear in its advertising, in your contract, and on the driver’s side door of the truck. If the truck in your driveway has no number on the door, that is the whole answer.

We actually have a lot, I mean a giant collection of artwork and I was worried because we have had some disturbing experiences with movers in the past. However, I have to say Cross Country Movers was by far the best i have ever dealt with. They packed every single piece with care and extra padding and moved it thoughtfully. They would also always check in with me to see which piece should be next to be moved in. I was expecting all of this to be done in two days but this was all done in 1 day. I was so relieved to have saved so much time. This gave us more time to prepare our new home and we were able to have my father-in-law come in a day earlier than expected. The team was pleasant and better yet, professional. Usually with movers I feel like I am organizing a daycare with a bunch of grown men who don't really want to be there, but Cross Country Movers were different. They were very considerate, reliable, hard working, and all had a great attitude. And their prices are pretty good, this was money well spent… And to be honest even if their prices were more expensive I wouldn't mind paying it. Trust me, they are worth every dollar. I had a regrettable experience with a broker who tried to charge me four times the initial quote, even though I had been clear about the items to be moved during five separate phone calls and a video call. Thankfully, a friend recommended a fantastic moving company to me. I went through their website which was incredibly detailed, covering many aspects of moving and potential scams to be aware of. It stood out from the vague websites of other moving companies. It was clear to me that this was the moving company I needed. A very helpful lady answered all my questions and even came out with her partner to give me an estimate the next day. The owner of the company, although a bit energetic and straightforward, proved his expertise during the loading process. He demonstrated exceptional problem-solving skills, especially when faced with getting some pieces out of a tight spot. We had made alterations to our finished basement after furnishing it, but they skillfully moved a 1000lb safe with precision and ease. Upon arriving in Modesto, they asked to unload a day earlier than anticipated, which made me very happy. The owner and the lady were both there working with the rest of the team to unload and set us up. Despite the extreme heat, they didn't waste any time. Every room was set up, boxes were neatly stacked as per my request, trash was collected, and the entire project was well organized. The entire move went without a hitch. Their team, which included several technicians, was truly impressive.

How do I check a Miami mover in thirty seconds?
Look at the driver’s side door of the truck. Florida requires every registered household mover to display its state registration number there, in all of its advertising, and in your contract along with a statement that it is registered as a mover or broker. No number on the door is the whole answer. You can then confirm the number in the state consumer database.

Different regulator. Interstate is federal: USDOT 2138595 and MC-744411, checkable on the FMCSA register. A move that starts and ends in Florida requires registration with the Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services under chapter 507 — the IM registration, renewed every two years — and Miami-Dade County adds its own moving business license on top.
What is my furniture actually insured for?
By default sixty cents per pound of the item — the federal released-value standard, included at no cost. That is weight, not worth. Full-value protection is the paid alternative on an inventory we declare together, and on art or glass the two are very far apart.
